May 2026 Bulletin

The first swallows have arrived, so summer is just around the corner and muddy fields have now dried so making cross-country walks much more enjoyable. Some of us are off to Villefranche for the Contact Group weekend 14-17 May and Charles Hughes has kindly agreed to take the chair in my absence. When you meet him please welcome our newest member, Nick Smith, into our fold. Until then, have a great time enjoying life and nature in whatever you are up to this month!

David Stainsby - My Job Talk

David is our newest member, having transferred from the Lichfield Rotary Club in the New Year, and gave a short description of his career since leaving school in west London aged 16 with some o-levels. He became an apprentice building services engineer (4 years) and spent the next 10 years on various private projects in the London Docklands, the Great Ormond St Hospital and the Hotel de las Artes, Villa Olympico, Barcelona.

Club Open Meeting and AGM Fri 1 May 26
May 01, 2026 12:30 pm - 2:00 pm
Members, partners and friends are invited to Banbury Cricket Club for fellowship, conversation and discussion on topics of current concern. It is also the occasion for individual members to put forward any ideas or topics they wish to air. There will be a short AGM during the meeting at which the following will be voted on (the appropriate paperwork will be distributed at least 10 days beforehand)
  • Distribution of Helen Morris Bequest monies 50/50 to Let's Play and Dogs for Good
  • Club Executives for RY 26/27
  • Proposed RY 26/27 Club subs of £40 per head (£50 for Corporate) + RI and District Capitation Rates
On duty this week are: cash desk - Bloxham and Bond, with Wilkins saying the Grace and Recchia Member in Charge.
 
Meal bookings have now closed.
  • Sausage and mash, followed by bread and butter pudding; or, 
  • Veggie sausage and mash, followed by bread and butter pudding; or,
  • Attend but no meal.
If your registration has been successful you will get an automatic email confirming the attendees and meal selection(s) you have booked.
 
If you have difficulty using the booking system you can get any member to register for you, or give Nig Randall or Paul Gardiner a ring.
 
The booking list will close at 1830 on Weds evening.

Join a few of your Rotary colleagues, partners and friends every Tuesday morning 1030-1130 at a very informal coffee meeting for chat and banter over tea and coffee (and a handy place to sort things out!). Do feel free to bring biscuits and cake to share if you are feeling particularly generous, but this is not compulsory - your presence is the important thing!
 
The surplus from the refreshment payments is donated to the Rotary Foundation Fund.

Members, partners and friends are invited to Banbury Cricket Club for an evening of fellowship and conversation. You will also get the chance to listen to Maria Cecilia, our Rotary Global Scholar, speak about her life and studies: she will be hosted by Martin Phillips.
 
On duty this week are: cash desk - Kempster and Baker, with Bennett saying the Grace and Gardiner Member in Charge.
 
Meal choices can be selected via the Register link above for:
  • Cottage pie followed by Eton Mess; or
  • Veggie cottage pie followed by Eton Mess; or
